Call forwarding sends your incoming calls to another number, so you don't miss important calls when your phone is switched off, out of coverage, or busy. It's useful when you're traveling, using a second phone, or simply can't pick up. The setting is easy to turn on, but many people forget to turn it off and then wonder why nobody can reach them.
This guide shows how to enable and disable call forwarding on Android, iPhone, and with standard dial codes. Menu names differ between phone brands and software versions, so your screen may look slightly different.
1. Know the Types of Call Forwarding
Most phones offer these options:
- Always forward: every incoming call goes to the other number.
- When busy: calls are forwarded only if you're already on another call.
- When unanswered: calls are forwarded if you don't pick up.
- When unreachable: calls are forwarded if your phone is off or has no signal.
Not every carrier supports every option, so check what your SIM provider allows.
2. Enable Call Forwarding on Android
- Open the Phone app.
- Tap the three-dot menu and open Settings.
- Tap Calls (on some phones: Supplementary services or Call settings).
- Tap Call forwarding.
- Choose a type, such as Always forward, enter the destination number, and tap Enable or Turn on.
If your phone has two SIM cards, you may need to choose the SIM first. Menu names vary by brand (Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, Google Pixel, and others), so look for "Call forwarding" inside the call settings.
3. Enable Call Forwarding on iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Phone.
- Tap Call Forwarding and turn it on.
- Tap Forward To and enter the number.
On some networks and some iPhone models, call forwarding options may be limited or unavailable. If you don't see the option or it doesn't work, contact your carrier.
4. Use Dial Codes (Works on Most GSM Networks)
You can also set up forwarding by dialing special codes from the keypad. These are standard GSM codes, but support depends on your carrier, so test them first. Replace number with the full phone number.
